Inclusionist Interactions How to engage men as allies

From your PC, laptop or phone - Via ZOOM

Come and join other Men for Inclusion 'Inclusionists' for our bi-weekly virtual chat and discusion. We are welcoming members and non-members to join.

For this week’s Inclusionist Interactions we are talking about making the invisible, visible.

Chapter Two of The Accidental Sexist shares what the authors - Gary Ford, Stephen Koch and Jill Armstrong – have learned about engaging men to work with women on building a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Men, particularly white men, have typically not been active allies to under-represented groups. Yet, men’s involvement is vital to achieving equity of opportunity.

Do join us on Tuesday September 7th at 6.00pm – 7.00pm where will share and discuss how to find men to take the lead in recruiting other men and how to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills. We share our experience of what men typically say about diversity and inclusion and give advice about how to challenge myths, acknowledge examples of where diversity initiatives can go wrong and discuss how to give men more confidence to intervene as allies. Five topics we will cover are:-

  • “I don’t know what I can say anymore”
  • ‘I’m not privileged”
  • “It’s a pipeline problem”
  • “Diversity has gone too far – men are the disadvantaged group now”
  • “Lack of women in leadership is down to childcare”

This will be the second of several sessions in which we share what inspired the book, what we have learned about engaging men in diversity and inclusion and practical tips on what to do to accelerate progress towards making gender equality a done deal.
