I was thrilled to recently have the opportunity to discuss inclusive leadership in the technology sector with Katelin Lovell at iO Associates – UK/EU.
Clearly all sectors need to continue their learning towards more inclusive cultures but given technology underpins every business, I feel it is necessary that the leadership in this sector, more than many, needs to reflect the community it serves if we are to have the right products and services for those communities.
In my experience, I also feel that all technology problems are people problems at heart, so if we can the people bit right, the technology bit will almost look after itself (no AI pun intended).
In this really enjoyable conversation with Katelin, we talked about:
🧑💻 why the change to a more inclusive culture is so darn hard
👩💻 how we need to lead with our ears on understanding the experiences of everyone in the workplace, irrespective of their personal characteristics, the traditional majority include (you know who I am talking about)
👩💻 the very real and practical things we can all do to increase our learning on how to create those cultures
I regularly have chats with people on this topic, but not all of them are recorded. This is a really nice synopsis of mine and Katelin’s view of the current landscape – I think it is worth a look and listen.
