Yesterday I had the opportunity to give a keynote and chair a panel at a fantastic event organised by Baringa and WUN – Womens Utilities Network on allyship and what it means to be inclusive.
One of the main things I took away from the event was how an eagerness to keep learning, and to do better, is integral in being more inclusive. Every day is a school day, I said last night, and I meant it – I learnt a lot from my fellow speakers and their experiences.
This includes allowing yourself to be vulnerable as a leader and a role model for your team. Connecting with individuals that raise concerns or make mistakes. That really good leadership will always equal allyship. And, one of my favourite points by Stewart Green, the standard you walk by is the standard you accept.
A big thank you to Grazzia Horn (née Buhrkohl), Rebecca Teasdale, Elena Maria Lima, Jasmine L. and Karen Anderson for organising this event, and Prashant Kachhala, Stewart Green, Hayley Monks MCICM (Grad), Tania Flasck PMP and Sarah McMath for sharing their wisdom.
