WIAS10: Beyond Inclusion – Helping People Feel They Truly Matter

Some insights on what I learnt yesterday at our 10th Workplace Inclusion Alliance event.

Every time I run one of these, I come out of it not only feeling proud of the work we’re trying to accomplish together, but with some great ideas for how we can take this work to the next level.

A couple of things I personally took away from yesterday:

– I was fascinated about the conversation beyond inclusion and belonging, where we discussed whether colleagues felt that they mattered.
– The idea that inclusion has to be consistent. It’s easy(ier) to be inclusive when things are going well, but how inclusive are we when work is hard, our projects are going wrong and our boss is on our case? Do we still collaborate with everyone just as inclusively?

Thanks again to Melissa Sabella for introducing everyone to The Honeycomb Works, to the team at AXA for hosting (and Sam Bagnall for her insights into AXA’s work), and to everyone for the collaborative conversations – hopefully see a few of you at the next one.
