As I recently reviewed business and recruitment advertisements from the 1970s, I was astounded by overt sexist stereotyping. Women were often depicted as performing ‘office housework’ or as mere objects of appreciation for men. It’s incredible to see how far women have broken down these societal barriers over the past few decades.
Today, women have the opportunity and choice to succeed in all areas of their lives, but the journey towards true gender equality is far from over. We must continue to work towards removing the remaining obstacles.
This reflection led me to ponder: How much have men’s lives changed in the 50 years since those ads were published? Have men been able to free themselves from outdated stereotypes? Do they now have the opportunity and choices to be the individuals they truly aspire to be? Do Men need to catchup? If they did would the remaining obstacles women face fade away?
