I felt like I was on top of the world — and I was, thanks to Michaela Wain, the fantastic team at Design and Build UK for the meet the judges day at the Women in Construction Awards.
It was a real privilege to meet so many inspiring people as I explored the construction sector – and discovered how much common ground there is in the challenges and opportunities faced by women and men, just as in other industries.
As one woman beautifully put it:
“More diversity in construction will help us build homes instead of houses, communities instead of estates, and places we can work in instead of offices.”
And from one man:
“Diversity on construction sites will make them safer, happier, and nicer places for me to work. The best boss I ever had was a woman – I could really open up and talk with her.”
Thank you to old friends and new — Gill Thomas, Kirsty Collin, Faye Allen BSc (Hons), PgDL, FRICS, MAE, Paula Chandler, Vicky Brook and Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP — for the warm welcome and honest conversations.
Looking forward to continuing the dialogue and working together to help shape a more inclusive, human-focused future for the sector.
